The orchard was planted in Autumn 2008 on land, which was once used as a market garden, belonging to Atholl Estates. The trees were planted by local schoolchildren and residents, Atholl rangers and a team of volunteers from Price Waterhouse Cooper. There are 173 trees, a mixture of apple, pear, plum, cherry and greengage with 44 different varieties in all. There is also a soft fruits garden with currants, gooseberries, blueberries and bramble. ! The Orchard belongs to the community. People in the community have donated materials. Atholl Estates undertake to keep the orchard mown and a Ranger gives us their time. We use micro grants obtained via the Community Council from the wind farm fund to buy materials to protect the trees. Although we try to advise people of the best time to pick, we do not charge for any of the fruit.
